Friday Dinner - Himalayan Fusion restaurant - Charlottesville, VA

Located on Charlottesville's downtown open air mall, Himalayan Fusion boasts menu selections from India, Pakistan, Tibet and Nepal.  The atmosphere is very pleasing inside the restaurant, with vibrant ethnic music and tables aligned along one wall with bench seats covered with cusions.  You can also choose to sit outside in the mall and absorb the mall happenings.
This being my second visit to Himalayan Fusion, I opted for menu offerings that are not often found in Indian restaurants in the area.  I chose a delicious Nepali style Tarka Dal dish with Basmati Rice and added an order of Vegetable Samosas.  I must say that the Samosas were maybe the best that I have ever had.  Larger than most and filled with chopped onions, potatoes and green peas, the deep fried treats were served with a tamarind sauce and a spicy mint chutney.  The spices used in the filling were not as intense as those in many Indian restaurants, but instead found a pleasant balance of aromatics.  The dal was uniquely spiced (Nepali spices?), slightly hot and delicious.
Overall, I found my visit to Himalayan Fusion, once again, to be a very enjoyable, and quite affordable, experience.  I plan to return on my next trip through Charlottesville to try some other selections from the menu.

  1. Thank you very much for visiting us and for liking our samosas and tarka daal. Yes, the daal was tempered with some Nepalese spices. That lends a good aroma to the daal instead of being cooked in spices.
We look forward to your next visit.
