Newly opened restaurant in Roanoke, VA.  Proprietor Mahmoud (Joe) Migdadi brings his years of experience to his dishes, which range from 9 types of shawarma, classic American burgers, Greek salads, tabbouleh and fattoush and even some vegetarian and vegan options.  The prices are very reasonable, ranging from as little as $3.25 for appetizers and desserts to $17.95 for full entrees.
As we entered the restaurant, we were greeted not only by attentive hostess, but also by the intriguing aromas of the foods being prepared.  The atmosphere of the Double Apple was quite pleasant and relaxed and seemed authentic with ethnic music and artwork from the Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean.
Robin and I began with an appetizer of Hummus topped with Beef Shawarma, served with Pita Bread.  For our entrees, Robin enjoyed a Kabob Halabi, grilled ground lamb topped with with DA's delicious hummus.  I had a Greek Gyro, which was perfectly seasoned and served with Tzatziki sauce.
Following our meal, we took a moment to visit the Hookah Bar area, which is upstairs from the restaurant and has it's own ventilation system from that of the restaurant.  As Robin has quit smooking earlier this year, we didn't try a smoke from one of the hookahs, but I may try it myself on our next visit.
Overall, we really enjoyed out first visit to the Double Apple and we certainly will return (probably quite often).
